Life Lessons from a Cowboy: The Inaugural Roundup
Join Corey Moser as he shares stories of family, life, and laughter.
Well, hello there. Welcome to the Roundup. I'm Corey Moser. After more than 50 years on this planet, I find myself in a position where people might actually want to listen to me talk. Who would have thought?
I'm not a professional radio personality, a celebrity, or a psychologist. I'm just a guy who's collected stories, made mistakes, and learned a thing or two along the way. So pull up a chair, grab something cold to drink, and let's get acquainted.
Who Am I?
I’m a husband, a father, a grandfather, a mortgage guy, and a horse lover. At this stage of life, everything seems to make a noise when I stand up—my knees pop, my back cracks, and life has become a series of inventory checks every morning. But beyond the physical quirks, I’ve had quite an interesting journey. With nearly 30 years in the mortgage industry, I’ve worked with thousands of people and witnessed some entertaining situations.
Family Matters
Now, let’s talk family. I have six kids, and my wife Rihannon has four. Together, we have ten children. Yes, ten. You learn a lot about parenting when you go from one child to ten, mostly that you’re just trying to make sure everyone is fed and that the house doesn’t catch fire. I love my family dearly, and I’m proud of who they’ve become.
But here’s the kicker: despite all the life lessons I’ve tried to impart, what do they remember? The times I lost my temper or the ridiculous moments I thought would be long forgotten. And now, with grandchildren in the mix, I have a feeling they’ll enjoy hearing about all my questionable decisions.
Relationships and Lessons Learned
I’ve been married three times, which suggests I’m one of those people who believes in trying again until you get it right. Marriage and relationships are complicated, and life has a way of teaching you lessons you should have learned much earlier. I’ve made plenty of mistakes—things I wish I could take back or say differently. And one thing I’ve realized is that being right isn’t always as important as it seems.
Life on Horseback
I love horses and being outdoors. There’s something about riding through the mountains that makes life feel less complicated. Horses teach you patience, humility, and the importance of paying attention. They have their own opinions and can turn a planned outing into a debate about whether a harmless rock is a threat.
Reflections on Life
As we age, we start to recognize that the things we worried about often weren’t as important as we thought. It’s the little moments—time with kids, conversations with parents, and good laughs with friends—that truly matter. And life doesn’t come with an instruction manual; we’re all just doing our best with what we know.
Why This Podcast?
I’ve been thinking about the stories I want to share with my children and grandchildren. These stories may be lost with time unless I take the time to tell them. I hope that one day, when I’m no longer around, they can listen to my voice and feel like I’m right there with them, sharing my tales.
So, what will this podcast cover? Life, marriage, family, kids, grandkids, and those moments that make us laugh or wonder what we were thinking. I plan to release new episodes every Tuesday, and I hope to build a community of folks who enjoy a good story and a laugh.
Before I wrap up, I want to leave you with one thought: a good life is less about money or status and more about the people you love and the memories you create. I’ve been fortunate to have plenty of reasons to smile, and I hope for many more to come.
Thanks for joining me today on the Roundup. Until next week, take care of yourself, be good to those around you, and remember—life’s a lot easier when you learn to laugh at yourself.
